In short: in Egypt, a conventional total hip costs 100,000–120,000 EGP, a bipolar hemiarthroplasty 80,000–90,000 EGP, a dual mobility (tripolar) hip 150,000–180,000 EGP and a ceramic hip 195,000–240,000 EGP, while revision and long-stem surgery is priced after assessment. The implant type is the biggest factor in the price, followed by the hospital and your general health. The final price is confirmed after examination and X-rays.
Hip replacement prices by implant type (2026)
| Implant | Approximate price |
|---|---|
| Total hip (conventional) | 100,000–120,000 EGP |
| Bipolar hemiarthroplasty | 80,000–90,000 EGP |
| Dual mobility (tripolar) hip | 150,000–180,000 EGP |
| Ceramic hip | 195,000–240,000 EGP |
| Revision surgery / long stem | Confirmed after assessment |
The price usually covers the implant, the operation and a short hospital stay, and varies with the implant, the hospital and your general health; the final price is confirmed after examination and X-rays. An implant should not be chosen on price alone — the right one is what suits your age, activity and bone quality. To understand the differences read types of hip replacement, ceramic hip replacement, bipolar hip hemiarthroplasty and dual mobility (tripolar) hip replacement.
What affects the cost?
- The implant: the head can be metal or ceramic, and the liner highly cross-linked polyethylene, metal or ceramic; higher-grade materials cost more but may last longer.
- Fixation: cemented, cementless or hybrid — chosen by age and bone quality.
- Primary or revision surgery: revisions need special implants such as long stems and take longer.
- The hospital and length of stay.
- Pre-operative tests and other specialist consultations, especially with chronic conditions.
- Physiotherapy and follow-up after surgery.

Success rate of hip replacement
Hip replacement is one of the most successful operations in modern medicine. Worldwide registry data show that about three quarters of hip replacements still work after 15–20 years and about 58% after 25 years. Success depends on your general health, the condition of the joint, the surgeon’s experience and your commitment to rehabilitation.
Reasons for hip replacement
- Advanced hip osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis — see hip arthritis symptoms and grades.
- Femoral neck fracture — see femoral neck fracture in older adults.
- Avascular necrosis of the femoral head, including after high-dose steroids — see core decompression of the femoral head.
- Failure of non-surgical treatment to control pain.
Preparation, surgery and follow-up
Preparation includes a full medical assessment, blood tests, X-rays and review of your medicines. During surgery the damaged joint is removed and the implant is fixed with or without cement, then the wound is closed and you start walking early. Follow-up includes physiotherapy, safe-movement instructions and regular X-rays. Possible complications are covered in hip replacement complications and recovery in hip replacement recovery time.
